5 Questions to Ask a PV Solar Panel Installer
At Urban Solar, we want our customers to feel empowered when they’re making the decision to go solar for their home or business. Whether we are their chosen provider or not, we want the best possible outcome for all of our customers, so we’ve put together this list of 5 questions to ask a PV solar panel installer. You can use this handy list to screen potential vendors for your own solar panel project. Remember that it’s not all about the quality of the hardware that will be installed on your property; it’s also about the level of service you receive and the ongoing customer care that will make for an overall successful project.
This is by no means a complete list; it’s just a list that hits many of the key features of a solar panel installer that we’ve found our customers to find highly important:
- “Will you give me a quote or estimate without charging a fee?” You should never have to pay for an energy assessment or estimate for work.
- “Will this project meet all fire codes and building codes?” This is an absolutely critical question to ask, for obvious reasons.
- “Can I expand this system at a later date?” It’s important to know if the PV system you’ll be installing will be scalable for your future needs.
- “What is the timeline for installation and testing?” Quoted timelines should be reasonable and adhered to as construction starts.
“Will you identify other areas where I can reduce energy demands?” This may include attic fans, solar water heating or other solutions you may not be aware of.
By asking these questions, you’re putting yourself ahead of most other consumers who may not know where to start in looking for a solar PV installer. Get the answers to these questions first, so that you don’t have to worry about the integrity of the company that you choose to do business with.
