Solar Power Jobs Top 10 Million in 2017
Just when it looked like the solar power industry couldn’t break any more records, a new analysis of the solar energy job market was recently released by Solar Daily in an article on their website. For the 2017 calendar year, the solar power industry alone created over half a million jobs, bringing the running total of all jobs in solar power to a whopping 10 million. China, the US, India, Brazil, and Germany all ranked highest among nations that tout the biggest solar power employment numbers – a trend that won’t likely let up anytime soon.
So, what can we make of this? Is this the point at which solar power will start leveling out, and job growth will reach a plateau? Probably not, judging from other economic indicators like new ground broken on commercial-scale solar projects and budgets assigned to solar power development in the coming years. By most indications, the facts and statistics we’re seeing related to the growth in solar power are, for the most part, heartening and a sign that this industry is faring very, very well.
Jobs in solar power don’t necessarily have to be installing solar panels or even replacing worn-out equipment. Solar power jobs involve designing, planning, and ongoing maintenance of solar power hardware – all of which is necessary to keep systems up and running. Other solar power-related jobs include:
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) – This is an IT-related discipline that has to do with the day-to-day management of solar power production and status metrics.
- System Engineering – when solar power systems need to integrate with other electrical systems, engineers are needed to ensure that everything plays well together.
- Sales, Customer Service, and Marketing jobs – all of these work together to keep the business moving forward. As you can see, solar power is much more about just the panels.
