The Solar Power System Installation Timeline
Most people don’t truly understand how quick and simple getting solar installed can be. Even though the solar panels and attached equipment is sophisticated and precision-engineered for efficiency using advanced materials, the actual installation and commissioning process is quite simple and straightforward. In this week’s blog post, we’re looking at the solar power system installation timeline for a typical project involving a residential install.
Before work can begin on any new solar power generation equipment installation project, a quote is first provided after an Energy Assessment is conducted. This quote takes into account all of the hardware (panels, inverters, wiring, conduit, etc.), labor, and any other costs that might be incurred as part of the standard installation process. Even though timelines may change due to factors like weather or site availability, costs are expected to remain relatively in-line with estimate contained within the quote.
Once the decision to install solar power generation equipment has been made, a chain of events is set into motion that results in a complete, functional solar power system being installed either as a completely new addition or as a modification of an existing installation. This chain of events begins after the commitment is made by the customer. It involves, at the very least, a project manager who will be responsible for arranging all of the labor, materials deliveries and other critical steps.
When installation day(s) comes, the panels are installed and connected to the existing power system of the building. This involves at least three steps:
- Solar panel frame fitting
- Panel installation
- Panel/inverter connection
For each of the steps involved in installation, there is a checklist that is maintained by every Urban Solar installer. This checklist ensures that no step is left out and that everything is in place before commissioning can take place.
