What Separates the Good Installers from the Bad Ones?
When you think about the ‘big purchase’ decisions that you make, you might think about the purchase of a new car, a new home or even a new place to put your investments. Big purchases warrant doing big homework, and it’s always a good idea to do as much research as possible before pulling the trigger on these decisions. On the list of ‘big’ purchases, you might have ‘add solar panels to home’, or ‘add solar panels to my business’. This would make sense, as an industrial solar power system can cost upwards of $20,000 in some cases.
So, when evaluating the list of potential vendors for your solar panels, it’s advisable to know what to look for. After all, the people you choose to install your new solar panels will be just as instrumental in the success of the overall system as the manufacturer of the solar panels themselves. Consider this, we thought to ask the question, “What separates the good installers from the bad ones?” In other words, what can you watch out for that could be potential red flags, to ensure that you select the best installer for your particular needs?
There are the obvious things to look out for, like negative consumer reviews. Checking marketplace reviews on sites like Yelp and others can give you some information, but it’s even more helpful to ask the potential installer for a few customers in your area that they have worked with. If they can’t provide this, then that’s a good reason to look elsewhere. A quality installer will have a solid book of business from which to pull multiple references if you should ask for them. Another thing that separates good installers from bad ones is a lack of any warranty for the installation work. Even though solar panels do come with a manufacturer’s warranty, they don’t necessarily include installation warranties, so be sure to check.
